What Patient Care Technicians Do:

A Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides basic daily care to patients under the supervision of a nurse or doctor, which includes tasks like monitoring vital signs, assisting with personal hygiene (bathing, dressing), helping patients move around, and ensuring their comfort by addressing basic needs while documenting observations and concerns.
 
Key responsibilities of a PCT may include:
  • Vital signs monitoring: Taking temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rate 
  • Patient hygiene assistance: Helping with bathing, dressing, and using the bathroom  
  • Mobility support: Assisting patients with walking, transferring between beds and chairs 
  • Basic patient care tasks: Providing meals and drinks, collecting specimens 
  • Room maintenance: Keeping patient rooms clean and tidy 
  • Patient communication: Observing and reporting any changes in patient condition or concerns 
  • Documentation: Recording patient information, observations, and care provided
